Ward Mountain Recreation Area
Over 20 miles of trails provide year round fun for hiking, trail biking, cross country skiing, motorcycling and snow machining through the pinyon and juniper forested slopes of Ward Mountain. Campers and picnickers enjoy this beautiful site, jointly administered by the Bureau of Land Management and US Forest Service.
Goshute Canyon and Goshute Cave
Scenic Goshute Canyon Natural Area has limestone crags, bristlecone pine, springs and abundant wildlife such as great horned owls, golden eagles, Cooper's Hawks and mule deer. There are chances to explore underground wonders in Goshute Cave and camp along Goshute Creek. However, you must be experienced before venturing into any cave and know how to minimize the impacts of your explorations. Irreparable damage may occur and ruin future experiences for everyone.
Blue Mass Scenic Area
Located in the picturesque Kern Mountains, "Scenic" is an understatement. Abundant springs and small streams are scattered among the granite pinnacles and cliffs which are noted for their unusual formations. Historic mines and abandoned cabins can be found in many canyons. Primitive camping, picnicking, hiking, and excellent photo opportunities abound in the vicinity.
Illipah reservoir
This reservoir, at the base of the White Pine Range, provides excellent trout fishing and variety of camping facilities.
Garnet Hill
Gems from the earth are available for collectors at Garnet Fields Rockhounding Area. Picnicking is popular at the recreation site which is near 7000 feet in elevation. Garnet Hill is also an excellent location to view the colorful excavations at the massive open pit copper mines near Ruth, Nevada.
Cleve Creek Campground
Fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing are among the many opportunities available based out of this cozy campground. A group barbecue area is available under sheltering cottonwood trees. Tall tales can be told at the Liar's Bench, including the one that got away.
Ely Elk View Area
The largest herd of elk in Nevada may be observed from this site. Peak viewing times are early November to early April. Elk are tolerant of visitors, providing you stay in your vehicle. Your chances of seeing elk can be increased by driving slowly along dirt roads in the area. Picnic tables and shelters provided at the site accommodate picnickers and campers.
Meadow Valley Campground
Secluded Meadow Valley Campground is bordered by scenic cliffs in narrow Nicanor Canyon near Spring Valley State Park. Fishing, sightseeing and hiking opportunities abound in this vicinity, which is located on the southern end of the Mount Wilson volcanic caldera.
Mt. Wilson Back Country Byway
Predominantly unpaved, this byway crosses a high, remote mountain range in eastern Nevada, offering colorful rock formations, narrow canyons, historical cabins, and a pioneer cemetery. Fishing, hiking and camping are also popular outdoor activities enjoyed along the route. During inclement weather, travelers should check for current road information at the Ely or Caliente BLM Offices.
Ash Springs
Slip into the warm, mineral waters of this small desert oasis. Relax in the comfort of natural spring-fed mineral pools. There are great opportunities for observing songbirds. The springs provide habitat for the endangered White River springfish.
