Outside of the cities and casinos, Nevada is a great place for spectacular off-highway adventures. Much of the state - in fact, 48 million acres, about 67 per cent of the state - is public land, administered by the BLM. Most of the population is in the city centers; the old Nevada is still out there, remote and wild, just down the road from the glitz and glamour.

There's spectacular scenery, numerous historic trails, popular mountain climbing areas, and much more on the public's land in Nevada. Half of the wild horses and burros in the US live here; about 22,000 of them roam the ranges of this state. About two-thirds of the gold produced in the US comes from this region, and new claims are filed regularly - there's still gold and silver awaiting in these hills. But the gold most of us find is in the peaceful sunsets and wide blue sky.
Public lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management in Nevada range from cliff dominated-river channels, sweeping panoramas from high-elevation pinyon-juniper mountains to stark and expansive white playas, geologic wonders, and wide-open spaces.
This diverse and beautiful land holds dozens of fishing areas, hundreds of trails, picnic sites and developed and primitive camping opportunities for us to explore and enjoy.
In the coming year we'll be adding a lot of information about Nevada. For now, we've compiled information from the BLM and other resources.
The BLM administers these lands through 5 offices:
