21 Road
Why would someone drive all the way from Minnesota to Moab and then turn around the next day and drive back to Grand Junction Colorado? Rocks of course. There are plenty of rocks around Moab, but they are mostly of the slickrock style. 21 Road is something else altogether. More like the Rubicon or Heldorado, this trail is definitely worth the drive.
Alpine Loop Trail
Mike Scott shares his amazing pictures from Southwest Colorado. Mike and friends traversed Black Bear Pass, Engineer's Pass, Cinnamon Pass, and Stony Pass Road during their three day stay in Silverton.
Alpine Loop Trail in an Amigo
The Alpine Loop of southwest Colorado consists of a series of high mountain passes that link Lake City, Ouray and Telluride in southwest Colorado. These passes exist because roads were needed to haul the gold and silver from the mines to the smelters. The mines are almost all closed, and many of the towns along the pass roads are ghost towns, but the pass roads flourish as four wheel drive roads. These roads provided Steve Bendy with the perfect opportunity to use his Isuzu Amigo.
Colorado 4Runner Jamboree 2001
The Colorado 4Runner Jamboree came about from discussions on the 4x4Wire Toyota SUV forum. With Colorado's beautiful country and trails, it was just a matter of time before a trip like this took place. Six late model 4Runners conquer challenging trails near the Continental Divide.
Die Trying Revisited
It was almost a year since a group of friends got together and made an assault on one of the toughest trails around, and due to a couple of coincidences and circumstances, it was decided that it was time to do it again. I wasn't sure I could make it this time after recently starting a new job, and getting ready for some other 4-wheeling adventures coming up shortly, but Mike Garner told me I had no choice, so that was that.
Die Trying
What started out as a little training run for the Warn Rock Crawling Championship turned into a marathon four wheeling adventure. It took our group of 5, with well prepared vehicles, 18 hours to complete a mile and a quarter of trail. All five trucks were fairly well prepared vehicles, but Die Trying is no ordinary trail...
Independence Trail System
It is pretty rare for people to find work fun, but four-wheelers can find fun in strange places. One such strange place is Penrose, Colorado, home of the Independence Trail System featuring the trails Patriot and Liberty. The Colorado Rock Hoppers, the adopt-a-trail club for Independence, scheduled a work trip for the 16th of January and they invited a bunch of local four-wheelers to help out. The goal of the work trip was to pick up any trash and clean up any oil spills.
Ouray- Full Size Jeep Invasion
The Full Size Jeep Invasion in Ouray, Colorado in August of 2002 was a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the full size Jeep. Wagoneers, Cherokees, J series pickups, M715s, from all over the country came out to run the classic four wheeling around Ouray. Full size Jeep owners enjoyed the mountain air and ghosts towns up in the high country.
