---Spanish Trail------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------

Full size, long wheel base vehicles not recommended due to some tight maneuvering.

Follow the McKinley Grove road east from Dinkey Creek to Wishon dam (17 miles). About 2.5 miles beyond the dam, turn right at the sign for the Crown Valley trailhead and Spanish lake OHV route. The trail is about 1.5 miles down the road, on the left.

The challenges of Spanish include tight maneuvering around downed and standing trees, steep and rocky hillclimbs (as much as 50 per cent grades!) and great scenery. The trail ends at the edge of the John Muir wilderness; hike in about a quarter mile to Little Spanish Lake, and about 3/4 mile to Big Spanish Lake.

Dispersed camping is available, but a wilderness permit (free) must be obtained from the ranger station. Camps must be more than 100 feet from water or meadows. Campfire permits are required.
