Looking back at the swap
The engine after Tellico and 1200 miles A side view with the standard cab frame and double bobbed bed A few days from completion Tellico - GSMTR

Looking back on the swap, I realize just how easy this conversion was compared to other conversions. Now that I have worked out all of the details, I would not hesitate to do this swap again. I am actually considering the same swap on my 1st generation 4runner since the cost is significantly less than that of a remanufactured 22RE.

The swap took a lot longer than I had expected, but I did not work on it as diligently as I would have liked. Many times during the process I came across stumbling blocks where I just didn't know what to do to solve my problems. I would like to thank all of those on the 4x4wire.com Toyota mailing list, as well as all those on the Toyota Mods mailing list for the ideas and advice. It is amazing how someone outside of a situation can look at some pictures and see something obvious that I have overlooked.

Now that I have the details worked out, I know exactly what parts are needed to complete the swap. This swap differs from about every swap out there because of the way that everything matches up. There are no adapters to be purchased, no special hydraulic or fuel lines with a metric fitting on one end and a standard fitting on the other, and not even any special motor mounts needed other than a flat adapter plate.

I can honestly say that the swap was indeed worth my while. A few times during the process I was a little skeptical of how things would turn out, and if it really was a waste of time, but driving that truck up the driveway for the first time made it all worthwhile!

If this swap interests you and you think it is something that you would like to do, please don't hesitate to contact me for further information. I am sure that everything I did can be done another way - probably even a better way, but at least this article is a good starting point and will help you realize what you are getting into!

Thank you for your interest in the article!
