If you have a manual transmission and the shifter feels loose or sloppy, your problem could be as simple as a new shifter seat. This install was done on a 1988 4Runner with the R150 V6 transmission. Other installs will be similar, but use different parts. The shifter seat I used was Toyota part number 33505-35020. Aftermarket shift seats are available from MarlinCrawler as well. |

A Perspective on Desert Vehicle Recreation and the Proposed Expansion of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Training Center
By Richard Crowe The purpose for my writing this article is not to denigrate recreation vehicle use in the California Desert (Desert) nor promote it for its importance for many families, racing clubs, and the commercial recreation vehicle industry. I also do not cast judgment on the importance of the U.S. Marine Corps training facility (it is important) and the merits of the proposed expansion to recreation vehicle use on public lands. My purpose is to provide an overview of a very controversial, complicated, and long-time building situation - one that involves many interests, and one that I spent most of my career on (1978-2007) working for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in the Desert as a manager, staff manager, and finally as a species-habitats plan lead.

The SEMA show, or "Specialty Equipment Market Association", is an automotive aftermarket trade show started in 1963 and now features over 7000 vendors including original equipment manufacturers, media, car dealers, specialty equipment distributors, installers, retailers, and restoration specialists. It is held every year in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is not open to the public. Registration as media, manufacturer, buyer or exhibitor is required. I have always seen pictures and heard stories about the show on the internet and TV, but was never able to go. This year I was lucky enough to have the help of 4x4wire.com to attend this event. I really wasn't sure what to expect, and went in with an open mind. Once I arrived, I realized just how big this even was. It spans over 2 million square feet, both indoors and outdoors. The convention center was separated into multiple sections which included Tools, Car Care, Mobile Electronics, Business Services, Racing and Performance, Hot Rod Alley, Restoration, Trucks/SUV/Offroad, and Tires/Wheels and Equipment. |

Lifting a Wrangler and improving steering for off road and on road performance
Need a little extra room to fit those 35 inch tires? Body lift and spring lift not enough? So, the decision is down to coil conversion or spring over. Worried about bump steer and axle wrap?
For the YJ, there is now an option - a spring over lift from Rubicon Express, High Steer System from Terraflex, and a Skyjacker 5th Link.
Larger tires require varying combinations of body and spring lifts. There does come a point where body panel trimming is required in addition to the body and spring lift. Then, the choice is spring-over or coil conversion. And, with any modification, there are pros, cons, and trade-offs.
