The photos in this article represent a 2001 Tacoma with the TRD supercharged 3.4L V6, a 2000 Tacoma with the 2.7L inline 4, and a 2000 4Runner with the naturally aspirated 3.4L V6. Much of the procedural information presented will, with a little common sense, apply to many Toyota engine/vehicle combinations. For example, the instructions for flushing the cooling system are pretty much a universal method that could be applied to many vehicles. The main differences should only be where the components are physically located. Also, any specific manufacturer's part numbers and/or specifications contained in the text or photos only apply to the vehicles that were being serviced. Your owner's manual or the dealer's parts department can help you determine what specific parts you will need.

Beginning under the hood, these photos identify the location where some of the components necessary to be serviced are found. In addition to most of the factory service items listed above, on the SUPPLEMENTAL MAINTENANCE page I'll describe how to test the PCV Valve, clean the MAF, clean the Throttle Body, and change the Fuel Filter. All these things can be good preventive maintenance, but Toyota doesn't list them in the Scheduled Maintenance Guide for my vehicles.
