Marshal Responsibilities
(from the ARCA Cedar City 2000 Program)
There will be two courses at each event. Each course will have two groups. Each group will have one Marshal.
The Marshal will be responsible for the Judges and the judging in their group. Each section will have two Judges.
Marshal's responsibilities include the following:
- Verifying Judges understand the rules, the point system, and how to fill out a scorecard correctly. Also give course instruction as needed.
- Supplying Judges of each section with the "tools" to judge, i.e. rulebook, clipboard, timer, pen, etc.
- Verifying gates, flags and banners for all sections in a group are set in proper places by the section Judges.
- All sections have a winch-anchor vehicle in place and a winch cable cover/blanket available for competitor use.
- "Roping off" public access to sections and keeping competitor corridors open for competitor use both in the section and between sections.
- Help competitors organize as a group at the staging area, then properly direct or escort competitors to the competition trailhead.
- Circulate through the course to "lend a hand" as needed to: Judges, ARCA officials, public safety officials, etc.
- Remain in contact with other Marshals, Judges, ARCA officials, public safety officials, etc, by monitoring the CB channels used for the event, to help ensure that the event runs safely and smoothly.
- Make a decision, based on the rules, in a situation where a competitor and a judge are at an impasse over a ruling or infraction. In doing this, both judge and competitor must be allowed "alone" time with the Marshal for voicing their opinion.
- At the conclusion of the event, ensure all banners, gates, flags, rope, judging tools, etc, are gathered and returned to the designated ARCA official.
