| Canada's Black Tusk looms large -- you can't get this kind of scenery locked inside your office! |
Well, another day, another alternator belt. This one blew out when the idler pulley came off its bearing. I 'm getting good at the procedure for replacing this: Un-bolt the rear bolts that hold the front implement mount to the frame, so you have access to the power steering pump. Loosen the power steering pump, so you can get that belt off. Also, remove the belt from the auxiliary compressor. Thread the new belt around the fan, through the other two belts (naturally, the one failing is the rearmost), and put it on. Tension it, then re-install the other two belts. Voila! Good for another... well, hopefully for a few hundred miles at least. Anyway, we made camp late, so I' m giving up early. Overhead is a beautiful full moon, and a fang of granite, its base rimmed by gleaming snow, piercing the twilight sky to the south.
