On the Road
Alaska, the final frontier. This is the voyage of the North by Northwest Expedition. This is a 6-week mission to explore trails in Canada and Alaska and to seek out new trails and adventures. To boldly go (or to go boldly, for those who hate split infinitives) where no Unimog family that we know of has gone before!
But today we're still in Washington. Mostly highway miles today. Fred and Jane are probably chugging away at vehicle preparations back in Oregon, but we finally made it out, two days late. But it was a good day. We probably averaged about 60 MPH, which is good for a Unimog! Nevertheless, uphill stretches where we were going about 30 -- we were not passing anyone.
We found a great campsite, parked right near a river full of glacier melt. It strikes us that, were Ranier to choose this night to have a sudden gastric fit, we might have just enough time to hear a rumble before the debris flow reached us. Cheery thought! But at least we'd be out here doing what we love.
We're delighted to have this opportunity to share our adventures with you, the temporarily armchair-bound readers. It is our hope that you might live vicariously through us to an extent, and we appreciate the efforts of Randy Burleson and 4x4wire.com in hosting our expedition on the web site.
Tomorrow we're heading farther north, but we re not sure where just yet. Wherever the trail takes us!
