TOY: Vented Brake Rotor swap problems....
I am doing the vented rotor swap to my 81 toy. I am running into some
problems not mention in the write up I have from Jack Alford. Which
said to use 81+ Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 brake rotors and 86+ Toyota 4x4
IFS calipers.
I am using 82 Land cruiser rotors and 90 4x4 IFS Calipers.
Problem 1. I could not get the two bolts to thread in to mount the
calipers because the 90 calipers are longer and hit the back shield at
the top and bottom which did not allow the bolt holes to line up. I
used a grinder to take off about 1/8 th inch on each side of the opening
in the shield and that allowed the bolts to go in.
However, the shield is touching the calipers which does not seem like a
good idea.
Problem 2. I thought that I had read in other right ups that this would
use the same brake pads as my original 81 calipers. I went to install
the pads and they are too short. So I guess I need to buy 90 brake pads
from now on??
None of this was mentioned in previous write ups that I had read or have
been reading for years.
Are 90 calipers too new....?
