TOY: Birfields won't come out
I am rebuilding a solid front axle and I am swaping out the stock 3rd member (4.10) for a 4.56 3rd. I have both hubs completely broken down all the way back to the knuckle. The birf is loose and will slide a little bit outward, but it will not completely come out on either side. is there a certain position that thing has to be in to slide all the way out so that I can clean it fully and swap the 3rd out?
TIA for your help!
Patrick

I do not get to take wheeling trips very often because I live in Texas. There is not much in Texas to start with because they really don't allow wheeling on any public lands. (Just an aside...does anyone know of a trail open close to Abilene, Texas??) Everything else is such a long drive away.
I was planning on taking a trip in late August/early September, and I was thinking of going to Moab/Canyon Rims Recreation Area in UT. I have heard that some of the trails were in danger of being closed due to legislation pushed through by environmental groups.
Will they be open in September? Are they really in danger in the near future? Does anybody really know?

Why don't you look up the recreation on the web, as I am sure they have a
web site, and if not, you could always contact by phone the local Ranger
Station, or even the county and local mounties (cops) to find out. They
will give you the square scoop on it, just like the feds have when the
snowmobile ban was coming and going. Good luck, have fun, and thank God you
aren't planning to visit Oklahoma! (Chuckle -- Don't mess with Texas!)
