I stripped the pinyon in my rear differential. The gear ratio was
changed years ago but I don't know what it was changed to. I assume it
is 4.88 but I need to know exactly so I can replace and match the
front. I have 32 inch tires and the speedo reads high.
The pinion had 8 teeth and the ring has 32 teeth. Its an 81 long bed
toyota.
How do you calculate this? There are some stamped numbers and some
numbers that are hand engraved on the gears but neither look like a
ratio number.

Hey Steve
Are you sure of those tooth counts? I never heard of a 4.0 gear ratio
