TOY: 1993 Landcruiser shudder
Hello. I am new to this list, but am on several other car lists. I bought a
1993 Landcruiser and have the following problem. At speeds over 40mhp I get
a shuddering in the car, enough to make stuff rattle inside. It is NOT the
tires because I've checked them, also, the shuddering goes away when there
is not load on the transmission and driveshaft. I think this is a universal
joint but am not sure. Under the car there are two universal joints and
between them, some sort of transfer case. Anyone know what type of repair
I've got coming to me? This cruiser has 158k on it.

I used to get the same kind of problem, under 40mph, with my plain old '93
Pick-Up. I replaced all four factory original shocks at 106K, and it went
away. Good luck!

Myles, thanks for the info. This is definitely not shocks. I'm pretty
certain now it is the universal joints. It's going in monday morning, and
I'll know for sure then. Another interesting thing, the passenger side
footwell is wet after it rains. I've had this happen with cars in the past
and it was usually the sunroof drain hole was plugged up (they drain down
the a-pillar). Anything else toyota specific that would cause this?
ALSO, the radio faceplate goes in and out, something loose on the circuit
board. And FINALLY...WHAT IS WITH THESE FACTORY ALARM SYSTEMS? This is my
second Landcruiser and both of them had these horrific alarm systems...they
go off everytime unless you put the key in the igition immediately. You
can't turn em off...or, at least, I can't figure it out.
