Re: TOY: 92' 22RE Trouble shooting

Pulled the rig in the shop late yesterday evening and
closely inspected all linkage and the inside of the
opening of the intake.  Turns out had a terrible
amount of build up of looks like un used fuel and
black carbon.  I throughly cleaned everything, added
some injector cleaner to the tank and took her for a
ride.  Presto!  The engine runs great again and
throttle response is now accurate.


I enter a new question.....What is creating this kind
of build up.  The engine is untouched @ 185,000 miles.

Hi Duck,
Your findings verified my suspicion of your engine woes. Good to hear 
the "collective" tips from the list helped yet another loyal Toyota owner!

I LOVE my future Wife, however my Toyota 4WDs run a close second. ;-)
{Just read about "Bouncing-Betty" the link is in my sig. file below.}

The "sludge" build-up is common, yet many people don't recognize the potential 
and therefore do Not perform the proper PMCS (Preventave Maintenance Checks and 
Services) on their vehicles before there are malfunctions. :-|

I 'try' to add a bottle of Injector Cleaner to my fuel tank every Month!
(sometines I forget but never add 2 or 3 to "catch-up" from months past.)

A suggestion is to pull the flexable 2.5" hose from the EFI intake every 10 to 
12 months and just eyeball the intake with a flashlight. You will be looking 
for a thick molassas looking sludge. If you see that, remove it with a small 
putty knife and then remove the residue with Carburetor/Injector Cleaner Spray.

Remember: This same preventative measure works well for 
the Toyota 3.0L and 3.4L engines too!

g'day guys i have a 98 hilux duel cab and wanted to know if there is any
quick mods i can do to the engine to give it more power.it's rather sluggish
as i am running 32 inch tyres on it.
