TOY: 92' 22RE Trouble shooting

Hello everyone,
I need some help trouble shooting a problem with my
92'Hilux 22RE Engine. I was driving it to work this
morning when I noticed that as I would shift gears
(manual tranny) that the RPM's would not go down. I
always let the truck warm up in the mornings and it
was considerably colder this morning so I assumed the
high RPM's at start-up were the choke kicking in.
Well as I was driving I also noticed it was running at
a higher RPM and after about 10 miles into my trip
when I shifted into neutral it was running about 3K
RPM's! I'm not sure what's going on. Can anyone
help?

Hi Duck,
1. Do you "feel" that the 'cold start up' circuit is not cancelling upon engine
warm up?
2. Does the engine "race" when you place the transmission in neutral?
3. Have you tried spraying Carburetor / Injector cleaner spray on all of the
linkage to the Fuel Injection system?
4. Have you removed the intake to the EFI and thouroghly ckeaned with Injector
Cleaner Spray?
Let us know what you find. Good Luck!
Happy Trails,

Ok,
The problem just started to day. I have the Dixie Run
@ Telico coming up so I have got to get'R'fixed.

1. Yes the engine races in neutral
2. No I have not completed any service to the engine.
3. Yes I feel it is related to cold start/choke.

I'm hoping this is not a bad sensor.

Check the metal linkage between the throttle cable bellcrank and the
throttle body. I have had to lubricate it occasionally to alleviate
similar symptoms. Also - check and see of the dashpot (I think that is
what it is called) that is under the throttle cable bellcrank is not
sticking, I've had that happen too

Years ago I had that on my Nissan 4cyl. It was one of the various
pollution control components. In the vacuum system to be more specific.
To troubleshoot, you want to get a good manual (factory) and check out the
various pollution control components and any adjustments on them. There are
tests themselves are usually fairly simple, though it does take hard study
to sort out the diagrams and stuff. Start on the vacuum system.

Of course, check all your vacuum hoses for good tight connection and/or
clogs.

Could be timing advance control on the distributer, which connects to the
pollution control system.

Could be carb. Less likely, though, I think.

Hello, all!

I'm just a dity'er, so please, no hate mail! HaHa! I've got a 1993
standard bed pick-up. I would do the following:

Do a complete tune-up. 1. Set the valve lash adjustment. 2. Replace the
plugs and wires. 3. Put a tach on the computer hook-up and use a scope to
adjust your timing (distributer).

I also use a can of injector cleaner in my gas tank every 3 months,
regardless of mileage. I've seen new injectors advertised anywhere from
$125 to $250 a pop. For a 4 cyl like me, thats one-grand to replace the
injectors! Ouch! My nephew does not own a Toyota, but he swears to putting
a can of No-Nox (jet fuel) in his tank once or twice a year to clean his
injectors! You can buy it at any auto parts store.

If I'm not on track here, forgive me. If anything, I'm just sharing some
tips!

Thanks, for being kind to me, in advance! HaHa!

Myles
