TOY: motor swap
I will be swapping engines from a 88 toyota truck
(22re) to a 89 toyota truck (22re). Is there any thing
that I should look out for before I do this? They are
both 4wd. Also what mods can I do to the old motor
before I will put it back in to a 4wd truck. The truck
that it will be going in to has 4.88 gears a locker
will be coming soon for the rear. It has 35X12.50x15MT
tires. I would like to have atleast 175 ponies under
the hood.
Thanks
Ray

I recently had the "Check" remain on after starting the engine and it's been
on ever since. The dealer didn't have staff enough to attend to it and
suggested that I might be able to read the code myself by using the same
procedure that is shown in my older '87 Toyota repair manual but the new '97
Toyota repair manual only speaks of using a special reader available
(apparently) from the dealer.
With the '87, the instructions were to put a jumper between two slots in the
box that is available for that purpose (under the hood) and reading the flashes
on the dash for number of times and time, and number of pauses and time.
What the consensus of the list on this issue?
Dealer only? Or can we check these things ourselves and, if so how?
TIA
