Surprisingly, I've had the best luck with stock stuff for pads and shoes..
All of the wear indicators fell off my heavy-duty/high performance
aftermarket pads, which unfirtunately cost me a rotor. After that, I
went back to stock. I typically get 50,000 miles or better with the
stock pads (though my 33" tires do tend to eat brakes up faster).
After 190,000, I'm still on the stock rear shoes, though they are
getting a little thin.
As far as where to go...pick your favorite dealer.

I have a 92' 22re, a 2.7 4cyl Tacoma, and a 20r
Celica. All engines are running fine. The 22RE has
190,000 miles and the 20R has over 300,000 orginal
miles. No head gasket problems in here. Sorry about
the T100.

Go with The Toyota replacement parts. They are the
best. Spend a little more and don't worry about it
unless you carry the mail on a rual route in the
sticks.

Your truck is fine. I have ran a Yota for miles on
dry dirt roads after losing a filter to water damage
on a trail. We drive/depend on these trucks trucks
because they are the toughest trucks on the market.
Have fun.

I also have an aluminum head / iron
block 1992 22R-E with over 448,000 miles
and no head gasket problems.
http://www.saber.net/~monarch/448.jpg
Also have a 1974 Corona with an aluminum head / iron
block engine that has never had any head gasket trouble
http://www.saber.net/~monarch/4m.jpg
Both engines had coolant changes every couple years
using a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water as
called for in the owners manual. The Toyota Red
antifreeze was used when it became available in the
late 1980's.
Keeping clean coolant in the engine + regular engine
tune ups = an engine that never runs hot or developes
cooling system corrosion = an engine that almost never
busts the head gasket.

Thanks for the input guys, going with stock stuff seems to be the general
consensus. Looks like I have another chore for the weekend!
