What do you use the truck for? I gladly traded the slight loss (if any)
in the really low end off idle for what I picked up from 3000 rpm up. I
don't think you'll experience any real low end losses with the 2.5 inch
cat-back because you're planning on keeping the cat, so that restriction
remains in place. Emission levels might rise a touch, but you should
still pass the sniffer if required.

Does your truck have the same door-type MAF as mine? If so, you might
want to richen things up a few teeth now that you have a full exhaust in
place. Toyota's tend to run lean, reportedly this worsens with a lower
restriction exhaust. There are instructions on the web - I can find you
a link if you need one.

OH - here's a tip - Fel-Pro makes a Dodge exhaust gasket with a metal
reinforcement that is an exact fit for the Toyota Cat flange on the
4-cyl (and maybe the V-6) - so take your flange to your favorite parts
shop and find good gaskets. The gaskets only cost a couple of bucks and
last a lot longer. Be sure your Cat goes back in the right way (there is
an arrow on it) Mine still passed emissions, but just barely....

Mufflers and gaskets have been my biggest points of failure. First
muffler was my fault - crushed it on a stump....the second developed
fatugue cracks in the inlet and outlet tubes. Neither of these were
Flowmasters. I typically have to replace the cat gaskets every two to
three years. The header gasket has only blown once, but the last time I
replaced the header gasket, I resurfaced the header flange and
re-studded the head (I've got about 90,000 miles on the header and
catback, only about 40,000 on the flowmaster). Using all new grade 5
bolts with anti-seize is definitely a requirement if you hope to ever
take it apart without a sawzall or torch. Once I got the fit right on
mine (no rattles, pipes in the right place) I welded all of the joints
after the cat, but this really isn't needed.

I have Downey headers w/ a custom crossover (2.25"
from each header) into an aftermarket cat (2.5") to a
Dynomax Ultraflo Welded Muffler (2.5") and 2.5" pipe
all the way back.

The Ultraflo creates less backpressure than the
Flowmaster. That will be fine.
