Yes, I just did a '84 Yoda frame job and it's held up to ALOT of
punishment. I went to Wellsville, Ohio to test it and it held up better
than my bed did.

The LC headers are not necessarily problem free. Below is a problem
one owner had and a solution offered by another owner:
PROBLEM:
"I have an 85 4runner that I just pulled the O2 sensor out of today. It is
thick with carbon buildup. So much so that the port opening on the O2
sensor was clogged (if that makes sense). This is a replacement aftermarked
O2 sensor that I installed when I replaced the stock exhaust manifold with an
LC Engineering long tube header back in June 03. I replaced the sensor with
the original, and am going to wait a month or so and pull it again. What
would cause so much buildup in such a little amount of time."
SOLUTION:
"I had the same problem with my LCE header. The problem is that the
O2 sensor location on the LCE header is booty. The little standoff platform
they weld onto the header to mount the flange on is way to long. It does
not allow the stubby little NTK or Denso or any other standard 1 wire
O2 sensor to protrude into the exhaust stream far enough to heat up.
Consequently I was getting 10mpg and running very rich. The only
solution is to buy a three or four wire heated O2 sensor and wire it in.
I did and my gas mileage doubled and sooty exhaust and rich smell are
gone. I also have a permanently installed O2 sensor guage so I know
exactly how poorly the LCE design works with a non heated
sensor. My sensor was a brand spanking new NTK brand direct OEM
replacement BTW. You can get a four wire heated Denso flange mount
O2 sensor from www.sparkplug.com for $50 and I will
tell you how to wire it in."

I went with a Doug Thorley. When I was doing my research it seemed that
the big 3 were: Doug Thorley, LC Engineering (big $$$) or Downey. They
all had different advantages.
Several people told me that the Thorley helped with lower RPM torque so
I went with that (plus it was in my price range!)
I upgraded my exhaust at the same time - 2.25" throughout, a new
universal cat to a Flowmaster 50 and out behind the rear tire. Nice
improvement. I like the exhaust sound and there was a definite power
increase, especially low down torque - the truck wasn't stalling quite so
often when it ran into that 'big' rock that it didn't really want to
climb. how much was due to the header I can't say but the whole package
is working for me. Had it in about a year now and I'm still happy.
