TOY: Re: Brake work

Pad replacement is easy enough, but it certainly sounds like warped rotors.
Rotor replacement is a bit more involved, but is still well within the reach
of a do-it-yourselfer with a decent metric tool-kit.

Find a friend who knows what they are doing, get yourself a Haynes or
similar manual for your truck, get good replacement parts (from the dealer -
we're talking about brakes here), a quart of new brake fluid (you might as
well bleed the entire system, as brake fluid needs to be changed too) and go
for it.

I think you are over your head fooling around with the brakes
without first studying the factory manual and some hand holding
type manuals like the Larry Owens book "How to keep your
Toyota pickup alive". Then visit a pick your part
type automotive wrecking yard and practice brake work on
a wrecked vehicle.

It's very easy to get confused about brake hardware like what the
pad support plates and shims are and how they need to be positioned.
I use a digital camera to photograph all the hardware to help me remember.

Hello all,

I am in the planning stages of a 2 step project. I am
doing a carbureter upgrade (weber 38DGAS) and will
also be doing a full exhaust upgrade including a
header. My question is which header to go with. Any
experiences or suggestions on which is better would be
appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim in Vermont

Jim,

L/C Engineering is the only way to go. More expensive than the two you
mentioned, but I've seen them all, and no others compare. They fit the
best, look the best and are already coated to prevent corrosion. No
affiliation, yadda, yadda. Their web site is
