Hi Toyota Folks! :-)
I'm asking the "collective" for a few sources of 22RE - Timing Chains and
tensioners. I have a new member of my personal collective, "Elizabeth" is
a 1986 Toyota 4Runner and She is in need of a timing chain replacement.
Links to sites offering TLCA discounts on the above parts would be great. :^)
On another note:
Bouncing-Betty is doing well. (after her lift of 3" front leaf springs)
I drove her about 70 miles in the past few days. The Procomp extended shocks
that came with the lift seem to be working fine too.
(I was skeptical, having only used gas filled shocks in the past.)
Okay, pour out your knowledge of 22RE timing chain information.
I'm ready to get Elizabeth on and off-roading asap. ;-)
Happy Trails,
~ Dee

First choice is to order all factory original timing component parts
from a discount Toyota dealer. I paid $270 for all the
parts, gaskets and sealers from Bob Bridge Toyota
1-888-271-3948. Factory original parts assure maximum
reliability, durability and freedom from oil leaks.
Second choice is to get a timing set with "made in Japan"
stamped all over it. One example is the "OSK Kit" available
on ebay for $50-70 or for much more $$$ from LC Engineering.
or DOA Racing. The design and quality of a Japanese kit is fairly
close to the factory original parts.
Third choice is to get a "made in USA" or "made in Taiwan"
kit, e.g. DJ Rock on ebay $40-70 These kits use parts and
gaskets that are are made of different materials and designs
than the factory original parts. Examples: shaft of the chain
tensioner is not chrome plated. Plastic guides are made of a
softer grade of plastic, chain tensioner pad is made with a softer
grade of rubber, thin paper gaskets instead of thick paper/composite
gaskets, a chain with roughly finished wear surfaces, etc.
If you don't plan to keep your truck very long the cheap
kits will get you by.
