Re: TOY: Timing marks 22RE
There's a mark on the camshaft that should be at 12o'clock when at TDC.
The problem is you can't get timing set right? Maybe your knock sensor
circuit is retarding the timing? what year vehicle? I assume 22re.

What has changed since your timing was correct? Did you take the chain off?
Or just remove the distributor?
If you just removed the distributor, then you need to mess with it until it works.
If you removed the chain, then it sounds like your chain is a bit off.
Did you tension it properly before installing it? There's a certain way
it goes on.

you have to short the timing jumper when you set the timing as the computer
will keep adjusting it while you set it if it's not shorted

I think I have it, I was trying to put the distributor back in the position
pointing to number one..and as it meshed with the drive gear it would put it
off a tooth..
I put the distr. in with the rotor pointing at 12o'clock and as it meshed it
lined up properly.. it still feels a bit sluggish but I did play with the
adjustment on the distr. a bit without running a jumper cable on the plug..
so I imagine that's what the problem is. I will try and get a timing light
on there and be sure the timing is set properly.. I also suspect the cap and
lead wires may be faulty so I will replace those tomorrow before I time
it...
Thanks for the info!, J.Stocks
