TOY: T100 Newbie

Just wanted to introduce myself.

I just came home last night with a new (to me) truck, and I'm excited to
have it. Reading the archives as well as a couple of other forums has me
even more pumped about the truck.

It's a 1996 T100 4x4 SR5 V6 Automatic with 75k miles (Green). Other than
Bilstein shocks and some different tires (not bigger, just replacements) the
truck is stock (I was surprised to see a 3-CD changer in the dash). It's got
a plastic bedliner too. I bought it from a Toyota mechanic (who's buying a
bigger diesel for big-time towing) that is a friend of mine; it's in awesome
mechanical condition. The body is in great condition too...minor dings and
scratches; but that's to be expected.

I'm in Kansas City, MO. The T is going to serve as my daily driver and work
horse, so that I can keep the miles off my other Toy (moderately modified
'88 MR2 SC). I've always admired the Toyota 4x4's, and now finally have one!

Any suggestions or information you all can provide will be much appreciated.
My first plans include a bed cover (got an eye on that one on ebay...will
that work with my bedliner?). I also would like to put a winch on the front.
What other upgrades/modifications should I consider? I imagine I'll have
this thing for decades to come...just want to line up a plan for the
modifications.

Thanks in advance!
Mark

Hi Mark,
First off, Welcome to the Toyota Wire off-road list! :-)
Congratulations on your Toyota 4wd T-100 purchase.

I have a Tacoma and a 1984 Toyota 4Runner, (she's a work in progress).
See it http://fly.hiwaay.net/~deesmith/toyprojects.html

What type of off-road use do you plan for this T-100?

Regarding the Bed cover, Do you mean a lid-type or a camper-type topper?
I think that if you have an 'under the bed' rail bedliner that you will
have no problems.
With the 'over the top of the bed' bedliner there may need to be some minor
adaptations with the tonneau style of hinged bed lid cover.
Good luck with your 'new' Toy! :^)

Not much "hobby"-type off-road use...more as what comes as a necessity
(chopping wood, hunting, etc.).

The bedliner is a "over-the-rail" type...so I'll have to do some diggin to
find something. I saw a flip-up type that was cool...but extremely pricey.

I like your 4-runner...it's a classic!
