My Alternator has died once more and since I'm replacing it I was
thinking of putting a higher output unit in there. I dont have access
to welding new brackets together so I'm wondering if this is close to a
direct bolt up. Anybody done it? I have an 81 truck.

I wish someone would come up with a solution to this...
I don't know how many times I have seen this on multiple boards and lists
and I have never seen an easy and/or straightforward answer... (Unless I
missed them all)
Other than creating brackets and whatnot.
I can't believe All-Pro or even LC Engineering hasn't come up with a bolt on
solution, even if it is just the brackets. I have a feeling it would be a
hot seller if they did.

Okay, I'm asking...
I could use some tips from this "collective" of Toyota owners.
Referring to Bouncing-Betty, (my 1984 4Runner with 3.0L Toyota V-6).
She is being a PITA! Betty will not turn over. :-(
Last night I thought it was due to her being "in-gear" so I installed
the shifters, (she was in second gear), and put her in neutral.
Then it was the battery too dead to crank, (charged battery),
battery was too far gone to keep a charge.
Today, Friday - Bought and installed new battery.
The starter begins to engage, but engine does not turn over.
Checked fuel pump circuit. Voltage is getting to the FP, however, only
on the "start" position not in the on position.
When I checked the Fuel Pump with an ohm meter there was continuity.
Should there be voltage to the FP in with the ignition switch the
"on"
position?
Today all of the indicator lights that normally come on when turning the
ignition switch to "on" came on. After checking the FP for
voltage and reconnecting the FP plug only the battery light comes on
when trying to crank the engine. The starter engages and partially
turns the engine, (not even a complete revolution), then disengages.
Now the trouble-shooting begins. :-|
Any tips, hints suggestions?

Thank you,
My BIG thanks to all that offered tips, hints, and clues.
This day has been a long time coming for me. :-)
To a mechanic one of the best sounds is that of the engine running!
Tonight, (Friday November 22, 2002), at 6:22 pm CST the 3.0L
Toyota V-6 engine in Bouncing-Betty came to life! Woo Hoo! :^)
It was one of the best sounds I've heard in a while. ;-)
There still remains the integrating of the steering column electrical
systems, (Ignition switch, turn signals, lights, wiper controls, 4-way
flasher, etc.), but the Engine is running and warmed up close to normal
operating temperature.
We shut her down after about 30 minutes, checked
the coolant, added more coolant, and ran her for
about another 15 minutes.
This has been a major accomplishment. The recipient of the 3.0L
Toyota V-6 engine and many other related systems is a 1984 Toyota 4Runner!
I must give credit to Heavenly Father too. After all of the
work to the fuel and electrical system last night she still didn't
want to start. I had checked everything that was engine related,
but still no start. This afternoon, I knelt down and offered up a prayer,
asking for divine intervention to prompt me what to try next.
After about 20 minutes I felt prompted to disconnect, clean, and
reconnect several of the connectors and perform a few more voltage
checks with my VOM. The readings were normal and as I turned the
Ignition switch it happened. She Fired up! Betty's transplanted engine came to
life.
I still have the entire interior, dash, sub-dash, and related electrical
connections to complete, but She starts and her engine runs! :-)
Oh yes,
(and it did it all without any Likkid Nales and the stock Turdmostat!)
Happy Trails,
~ Dee
