TOY: timing question
I just bought a timing light (trying to diagnose a cold-start problem,
suspected timing), I've always set timing by ear before. Shorted the E1 and
T terminals per the FSM, and found my timing was set at about 20-25 degrees
BTDC. Set it to 5 and it idled down a lot, when revving it backed up to
about 14 BTDC. When driving across about 20 miles of hills, power was a lot
worse, could't stand it so I pulled over and reset to where I had it set by
ear.
My questions are: Why did it run so much better at 20 BTDC than at the
specified 5? And what does it do to short the two terminals, I tried setting
timing with and without them shorted and didn't notice any difference, am I
doing something wrong?
Thanks,
Kerry White
