TOY: engine swap speedo problems

Guys:

Maybe someone can give me a little info on a problem I'm having. Any simple
explanation will help( if one is possible). I've got a shop putting a 95
4.3L vortec in my 94 V-6 pu using the R150F tranny. They're using a Howell
engineering wiring harness and computer. As you can see, I don't have the
knowledge or mechanical ability to do it myself, so I'm having to let them
do it for me. I have, however, been trying to follow what they have been
doing and I tried to research it and gather most of the parts and stuff.
However I was clueless on most of how to get the speedometer to work. I
thought I had it figured out when I ordered a frequency module from Downey
and a signal generator. Well my truck has the electronic speedo of course,
but I was told by downey back in May that those were the parts that I would
need to get the speedo working. Anyway the mechanic now tells me that since
it is an electro speedo, I only need the freq. module and not the signal
generator. Well he tells me I need two freq modules, 1 from the trans to
the computer and 1 from the computer to the speedo. Well Downey now tells
me I only need 1... Who am I to believe? I'm going to have to trust them on
this but I would like to kinda know the workings on it so that I can talk to
the mechanic and kinda know what he is talking about. I thought the problem
was solved but now the mechanic says that he is having a hard time finding
out how to wire it to the toyota vehicle speed sensor and wire up the egr
valve or something or other to get the speedo and tach to work. I was under
the impression that since both engines were 6 cylinders that it was a simple
deal to get the tach going( no adjusting and all)..

Does anyone have any hints, places to go for info? They've had my truck for
a while now and I understand that it takes a lot of time and effort and they
have to work on small projects to keep the shop running, but they have had
me running around in circles and keep telling me one more week... My toyota
and I have never been apart this long before and I'm going into withdrawal:(

I'll give them a couple of days to sort it out then I guess I'll try to get
in touch with Howell and Downey again myself so that I can kinda know what
we're up against. If anyone has any other resources that I can go to let me
know. I've heard that Judy at Nevada Speedo is a great help with these
things, but her number is with all my info that I gave the guys at the
shop...

Maybe it'll be ready in a day or so.

Thanks,

Scott Shelley
