Found the plug & jumped it with the key on. No fuel coming out of the
damper's boss. Can hear a relay clicking, so it looks like I get to
drop the tank. yehaaaaaa.........

=> Hi Ray,
I would expect to measure somewhere between 12VDC and 14.5VDC
(depending if the engine is running / charging or not)
Was your measurement of 17+ VDC the voltage going to the pump
with the engine running? (if so, that sounds a bit high to me)
Have you checked your voltage regulator or possibly the alternator
to verify that your charging system is indeed functioning properly?

thanks for the help guys...
didn't need to mill the head it was flat and i figured i didn't need to give
myself the headaches. the 22r is now running.. timing is off, gonna go home
with and use my dads timing light, too poor to afford one after the buying
the head gasket and beer for the helpers.
one of my valves is ticking.. I adjusted them to factory specs .008 and
.012. Still ticks kinda hard, any suggestions? The head was new 40,000
ago. I'm gonna recheck the valves when i get home this weekend. I'm
spending too much time at work, this coop with remington is busy.....
Thanks guys
Russ

Are you getting the same thing at the batt? I would think so and that would
seem pretty hard on the battery.
BTW, The dash voltage gauge on my 86 seems to always run high with the
engine running and much lower with it off. Made me worry I was burning up
battery's with the alt rather than the Texas heat. Measured voltage is
~12.5 off / 14.3 running -- defiantly not in line with what the dash gauge
indicates.
Any recommendations on an inexpensive but accurate digital or analog
multi-meter type gauge? Would prefer a simple two wire setup that was
powered by the batt and always on. I don't think this would draw to much power?

Is it possible to remove the keys from the crankshaft without ruining them?
(The ones that are under the oil pump drive spline and main pulley)
Thanks,

Trying to conquer a tailgate rattle I have on my 4Runner. After a call
& a visit to my local dealer they were able to find the anti-rattle clips.
These are those plastic interlock clips that always seem to get broken, but
I have no doubt help the rattling that occurs in the tailgate. Along with
that and the outer seal is dried to a crisp (going to replace it too).
Anything else I should look into to get rid of the annoying tailgate
rattle?

Hey guys,
I don't post often, but just the other day I noticed that my sunroof latch
(the red piece) had broken... so now the sunroof won't stay open.
The dealership doesn't know what P/N that is... all he could find is the
"locking mechanism" and it's not available. Any ideas?
It's a 92 V6 4x4 Truck, manual sunroof.
I'd appreciate any input.
Cheers,
Patrick Shelston

fuel pump voltage should be around 14.5 , the same as
battery volts. did you check voltage at the batt?
sounds like a faulty regulator or a grounded rotor in
the alt.

I've used a semi dull cold chisel (& care!!) to remove really stubborn

=> Hey Scott,
unless you are positive that the rattle is from the tailgate itself
then you might want to try my "cheap-trick" for stopping the 4Runner
rear gate rattle.
On every 4Runner I have owned, which consisted of:
2- 1986 4Runners (1 manual trans. & 1 Auto trans. both 22RE)
1- 1985 4Runner
1- 1991 4Runner
(including Bouncing-Betty, my 1984 4Runner).
BTW: Bouncing-Betty is getting closer to operational again! ;^)
Just gotta get all of those multi-colored wires connected to sumthin' I reckon.
I would hear an annoying rattle from the rear of the vehicle.
After much trouble shooting it was narrowed down to the folding supports
for the rear tailgate. I was not about to pay for the plastic "dealer"
replacement parts.
=> Instead I went to my local hardware store and bought two commode washers.
Yes, that's right! :-)
The rubber washers used to secure the toilet to the floor of your house.
Total cost: .48 plus tax
Just unscrew the large phillips head screw from the body insert one
of the rubber washers and replace the screw. Rattle Stopped!
-> [this would be a 1/2 Bananna job] ;-)

Finally got them out, ruined 1 but only needed 2 of 3. Had to grind them so
the oil drive spline would slide on. Got the timing cover on today with
unexpected difficulty, the head is already on so the front part of the
headgasket was hanging down and kept getting in the way till the timing
cover gaskets started falling off, finally found ot how to get it on but I
expect a leak, so in my week after inspection I'll probably get to pull the
radiator etc. and fix that..
Makin progress though! And it does look good, although maybe a little too
colorful.
Thanks,
Kerry

Bit the bullet and bought a NAPA pump for it. Has the name Carter on
the side of the actual pump, so that made me feel pretty good about the
quality of the pump. Dropping the tank wasn't nearly as bad as I thot
it would be. This truck is amazing, there was a light coating of dust
on the top of the tank and no mud in any nooks or crannies. The PO told
me he'd taken it off road, so the cherry has been popped but you'd be
hard pressed to tell.
Anyway, after a little cranking it lit off and idled. Has a shudder to
the idle when standing still in gear. I suspect that's a function of
the TPS code and possibly too low of an idle speed. Those are next.
This puts me in a dilemma about what to do with it, Patch, or both. Oh
well, there's far worse dilemmas.....
