Re: TOY: sandblast timing cover?
Thanks Thom! I guess I won't blast them then. They don't need it for
performance reasons, I got most of the corrosion out with a shotgun bore
brush. If you hadn't responded, I was going to drop them off at the machine
shop to be blasted this morning, and they would have blasted everything
including the O-ring groove.
So you saved me!
Thanks

John-
I saw on the Wild Yoats web page, a complete A/C system for sale. It was
out of a '93, but I bet it'll work. It said complete system. Asking $450.
Here's the page http://www.wildyoats.com/board/?topic=topic2&msg=716
It didn't list a name or number, so you'll probably have to post a reply on
the BB.

I had a problem this weekend with my 85 4Runner and was wondering if
anyone has had a similar problem. The truck has 5.29s, 35" BFGs, and a
stock engine. The air temperature was right at 100 degrees F. We started
at 4500 feet and went up to over 9000 (southern Colorado).
We ran down the Interstate for about 20 miles. I had it floored the whole
time to keep it at or around 70 mph. After exiting the interstate and
going onto a state highway with a slight incline towards the mountains, I
noticed the truck starting to chug or miss at half to full throttle. It
got progressively worse until I could only open the throttle about 1/8
open without it bogging. We managed to make it up to our campsite, but it
was a struggle. By the time we got there it would barely idle and when it
died it only started with much cranking. This whole time there was a
heavy smell of fuel. The next morning, after it sat all night, it started
reluctantly but ran fine all the way home. The air temperature was cooler
and the route home was mostly downhill, so I didn't have to floor it the
whole time.
The truck has 140,000 miles and the fuel filter has not been changed.
I'll start with this, though I doubt that's the problem as it ran fine the
next day. Same for the fuel pump - why would it have problems one day and
be okay the next? Is this a common 22re problem area?
Vapor lock? With EFI? If so, why didn't it clear out when I was
descending? I wasn't going uphill the entire way up to the campsite;
there were some long downhills that I think should have allowed the fuel
system to cool off. On other cars that vapor locked, it cleared out
quickly.
Obviously I need a 4.3 or a Supra engine so I don't have to drive around
wide open just to make freeway speeds; however, that isn't going to happen
right away so I'll probably just replace the muffler and cat so I get a
'little' more power to run on the highway.
Just curious what others have seen,
Allan

one, 6 gauge is slightly small.
when i setup my removable quick mount system for my warn 9000xdi, i wanted
overkill.
this involved 1/0 gauge welding cable. i bought 50 feet to run from the front
batt to the rear using 250 amp connectors from wrangler prodiucts.
also, my winch mount was made from a frame off a ford 350 series so that's over
kill too. now the weakest link in the winch system is the 4 grade5 bolts that
WARN provides to bolt the winch into its mount...
btw, when i winch, i leave in neutral (have an auto tranny) since in park, you
might break of that pawl in there and leave yourself stuck. i also keep a high
idle to keep the juices flowing as muich as possible. of course having a top
notch battery helps (a red topper optima).
the yes, the 2 times i had to winch using the rear mount was to save my own butt
(pun intended...)
downside? winch in the mount is close to 150 pounds...

I had a similar problem, what got my attention was the mention of the fuel
smell... There's a little device at the end of the fuel rail called a fuel
dampener. Mine was leaking fuel and looked to be causing fuel delivery
problems. I bought a new one (something like $80!!!), installed it, and then
decided to open the old one up and look at it. There's a small screw with a
little rubber o-ring or gasket that had vibrated loose and was allowing the
fuel to leak. You have to get the plastic cover off, then you can get at the
screw. Not sure if this would have fixed it, but I put it back together and
now it's in the "spares" box...
I had numerous fuel delivery problems... and after replacing the fuel
dampener, fuel pump, fuel filter, and fixing (yes, FIXING) the TPS it's
working fine now.
Hope this helps

6 ga. is definitely too small, especially for the length of cable run
to the rear bumper. I used 2ga. for a 2500 lbs stall winch on the Dune
Buggy. I can't find my Anchor Marine catalog, it has a nomograph in it
for figuring out what size wire to use for more normal loads but it can
be extrapolated for winch type loads. I used that to arrive at the 2
ga. for the DB's winch.
1/0 sounds a little light for the rear bumper run, should be OK for the
front. Ask the winch maker what they recommend for the distance
involved.

So I got this truck home last week and finally had time to look at it
tonight. Put two gallons of fuel in just in case the gauge is up to the
usual yota tricks. All of the fuses for the EFI and engine either look
or test good. Looked up how to pull trouble codes in my 84 FSM and got
the light to flash. Only problem is my 84 FSM only lists 7 codes and
I'm getting eleven flashes. So, someone with an 85 FSM please give me
the bad news, what does it think is wrong ?
Oh yea, still cranks, but no start and no sound of the fuel pump
priming the system. No sound of the fuel pump running at all. I do hear
a relay over near the computer click when I turn the key to the crank
position.
