TOY: Wires and the 4Runner Top
Has anyone dropped wires down between the cab and the factory hard top?
I'm going to be installing some lights up top some day, and I'm
wondering if it reseals correctly. Also...how did you run the wires in
the cab, without them all over the place??
Thanks,
Jacob
P.S. - truck is an 86 4Runner

Well I havent run wires past the seal in the
top/cab...
I have run a CB antenna wire through the side of the
cab (behind the plastic side panels) - through a hole
in the plastic panel and too the roof.... there is a
hole in the sheet metal already there!
I put in a coax connector mounted to to the plastic
when I did this. It allows me to remove the antenna.

I did, in fact end up taking the hose + radiator out. I talked to a friend
who said he could take it out the bottom but he has IFS. If you can get it
out on a solid axle truck without taking anything else out... then you are a
far more talented individual than myself. Taking the rad out greatly
simplified the task anyway, so it worked out well and there was minimal
coolant spillage.
Took me two hours total... but the wife wanted to know what "brushes" were
so I took apart the old alternator and showed her where they were and what
they did... so that is included in that time.
Thanks for help everyone... as usual.

on my 84 i had to remove the lower hose, the alt wouldn't come out any
other way, although if you wanted to use a BFH it might be doable.

I can't decide on whether it'd be a good idea to blast my timing cover or
not. It could use the cleaning, especially in the water passageways were
there is some built up corrosion.
->But I'm afraid that with a rougher surface for the oil pump O-ring, it
might leak<-
I think that sandblasting the valve cover, intake manifold, and air intake
chamber won't hurt them at all.
I have a remanufactured long block that I'm putting in, I've painted the
block and all the iron parts, but have only wire brushed the aluminum parts,
and would sure like them to look as good as the rest.
Any comments are welcome and appreciated. :)
Thanks,
Kerry

No, not likely at all either. Actually, the last time was me trying to pull
Art out when he got stuck and broke his drag-link in the rocks and snow at
Frazier Park.
Between Anthony, Art and I, we've not had to pull each other out off the
rocks for a very long time now. It's normally "the other" people who get
stuck.

So I want to sandblast some parts and the frame of my 81 truck... Who has
experience sandblasting? I borrowed a siphon-feed sandblaster from a buddy
who said to use Silica sand. So I get the silica, and the bag says "DO NOT
USE FOR SANDBLASTING!"... So I go to Harbor Freight today and get some
sandblasting media, but ALL the respirators say "DO NOT USE FOR
SANDBLASTING". So what do you do for sandblasting? What type of media,
equipment, and protection?
Thanks,
Marc Sahr
