Thanks, I was kind of expecting it to be the R&P but not necessarily the
front. Seems logical though with the weight and traction transfer.
Was he doing a steady pull or more of a snatch with the juice on? Though
still plan on avoiding it like the plague, still trying to determine
approximately how much it might take to break something. I have done some
pretty hard snatch's, including with chain (yes I know that is not a good
idea and I do have a strap), in forward and been lucky enough not to break
things. Thanks for any other comment or input.

Thanks for the reply's. I will avoid this unless life is at risk.
Now a question about winching (I don't have one yet). I would guess that
when winching someone else out, it would be best to secure you vehicle with
the brakes rather than the drivetrain?, but this would require and extra
foot in the cab. Better still would be to a fixed object. Next best would
be pulling with a front mounted winch and the truck in 1st gear / 4 low
(bad for battery because engine would have to be off)? Rear mounted winch
would be bad in this situation because you would be putting the same stress
on the drivetrain as pulling in reverse?
I am thinking about a reasonably light / not to expensive winch mounted so
I can slip it into a receiver hitch and probably 6 gauge wire and jumper
cable clips to attach to the battery. Looking for something that is not
permanent and portable. Any thoughts or suggestions?
I am new to the list so hope this is not something that has been discussed
to death recently.
Thanks, John
