I know a guy on the DSM list who is at or near completion of an AT/NA/FWD to
MT/Turbo/AWD conversion...
It may be cheaper, but it isn't near as much fun!!
Besides, think of all the interesting gears and whatnot that are in that
Automatic transmission that would make great desk ornaments at work.

I used to be on a list for the Talon/Eclipse, and there was always a lot
of talk of making non-turbo cars in to turbo cars. The end conclusion
was that it was *always* easier to sell the non-turbo and buy a turbo car.
This sounds like a similar project. Unless you have a particular
attachment to your 93, or significant upgrades in it already, you might
consider that as an option. Then again, who am I to talk, as the guy who
has done some of the more hairbrained upgrades which have actually
devalued my cars. ;-)

Bryan Knowles,
I'm located in Lodi California.
Here is my email akitadog@inreach.com
Erik Bibelheimer,
Thanks, I forgot about the transfer case.
Payne,
Maybe I could use them to make a hanging mobile, now wouldn't that make
quite a conversation piece :o)
Rick Rickert,
Yes, the V6 is also a slug, but after having a truck with a manual for 19
years it does not have that direct feel.
Rob,
I thought that the ECU had something to do with the shifting of the
auto-trans?
I'll watch for flange differences and was planning on a smaller diameter
driveline anyway.
Thanks for the heads up on the Cross member.
Do you know what is involved in swapping out to manual hubs?
Mark

Mark,
I have an R150 5-speed tranny that I removed from my '92 4Runner.
It needs to be rebuilt, but the transfer case is still in great condition.
The only problem with the transmission, is 2nd gear synchros are worn.
It could be rebuilt. I also have the bell housing for it. It was removed
from a
V-6.
As far as the front IFS auto hubs will work fine.
I am not sure if you will have to cut a hole in the floorboard, for the
shifter.
Where are you located?
I am in North Texas (Dallas Area). Just make an offer on the parts.
Happy wrenching!

Rick, you can't compare a Talon/Eclipse to a toyota 4x4. It is pretty easy
to do it, and unlike the DMS lists, people actually do stuff they talk about
doing here. I too have owned 3 elcipses(piles a crap if you ask me, blew up
all 3 of them). You can swap out an Auto to a manual in one day pretty easy
on a toyota 4x4. In the past year, I have noted over a dozen auto to manual
swaps, quite simple. Even in toyota cars it it pretty easy. I have done 3
auto to manual swaps in toyota supras, all were pretty easy.
Mark go ahead and do the swap. The hardest part will be the crossmember,
but NWOR sells an adapter where you can use the stock crossmember. Usually
used for the 4speed to 5 speed conversion in the older trucks, but I am sure
it would work for the auto to manual conversion. I just got a crossmember
from Front Range Off Road, that way I got rid of the huge crossmember that
hangs down sooooo low.

Since you should have ADD (automatic differential disconnect) on that year
of vehicle and not "Automatic Hubs," the swap to manual hubs is as simple
as unbolting the drive flanges and bolting on some hubs from an '86-95 Toy.

Wow! That sounds easier than I thought. I thought I would have to change the

This is just being really anal, but the manual engines come with a dash-pot.
Its a little damper on the throttle body which keeps the throttle plate from
slamming shut when you pull your foot off the throttle between gears...
Supposedly for emissions reasons.
Apart from that, you may want to make sure you get the lever boot
assemblies... and the console parts (assuming you have a centre console)
from the donor truck just in case..
If you are keeping your old xfer case the speedometer will be the same, but
you may have problems getting a different speed sensor working with your
dash.
Lastly, check the gear ratios in your diffs, this may not matter to you, but
i vaguely remember something like the manuals have 4.10's and the auto's
having 4.30 or 4.37s or something like that, but i may also just be on
crack.
