There is a drain plug on the tank. Pull the skidplate and you'll see it.

I ask because I ordered a factory service manual, and now that I have it I
find it to be less complete than I had hoped, numerous typos, lack of
detail, etc. , not much better than my Haynes or Chiltons.
It is white with a red stripe at the top and a black stripe at the bottom
and says
TOYOTA
1988
Truck & 4Runner
Repair Manual
-Engine
it does not look like the ones I've seen on ebay or these:

did I get jipped and just get a generic shop manual, or is this the "factory
service manual" with a new cover? I hate to think this is the most
comprehensive material there is..
thanks,
Kerry

It's the right manual and no it's not for beginners. A beginner
needs to read the procedures in all available manuals
(Hayes, Chiltons, Factory manual & others) and then
attempt the job.
Personally, I like to practice procedures on junked cars in
the self service wrecking yards in order to know what I'll be
up against when I attempt the real thing.
I think the best beginners book, by far, is "How to Keep
Your Toyota Pickup Alive, by Larry Owens. Occassionally
available on ebay.
