TOY: Drive shaft orienations

I recently pulled off the drive shafts on my 84 4x4 in order to change the
ujoints.  I was told after the fact that I should have marked the
shaft/flanges in order to get them back on the exact same way.  Is that
really important?  Is it going to make a difference if they go on
differently?  How will I know?
