That style winch most likely has a case grounded motor - which means
power-out is not an option unless you can find a motor that will swap into
it's place so you can swap polarity and get the motor to turn the other way.
As old as that winch is, I doubt it is a custom motor - so head to a shop
that specializes in motors and they should be able to find something that
will bolt up and work.
