TOY: Synthetic Oil and Oil Treatments (Slick 50/Prolong)

I just had my motor rebuilt, and I was trying to decide what oil to go with.
I have heard good things, in general, about synthetic oils, but I want not
sure if they were OK for an 84 22R or not.  I have heard that they are
higher grade and increase engine life.  I have also heard that if you start
with synthetic, you have to stay with synthetic.  Anybody know any other
pros/cons?  What oil do you recommend?

Also, are oil treatments like Slick 50 and Prolong worth using?  What are
the pros / cons to them?
