TOY: Toyota Discounts at Parts Counter

One reason to join the TLCA is to get a discount at
certian Toyota Dealerships (Marlin too I think).

If not - at least ASK if there is a discount.

Many car clubs and what not get a standing 10% or some
other amount off on parts. They'll just add you to
that list. Once yer in the computer that way - the
discount comes up even if yer "person" aint workin the
counter.

Be REAL NICE to the parts people. Learn to identify
those who know what they are talking about and those
who dont.

Establish yer self as the type who knows that they are
doing. Ask to assist with pointing out what you need
on the fische.

A good parts person is worth their weight in GOLD.

Example - I wanted to added a drivers side grab
handle. I told the parts guy what I wanted to do.
He smiled and said if I wasnt a stickler for "Martha
Stewert" grade color matches the ones from a Supra
were 1/2 the cost of the truck ones. Who knows why?
BTW - the color matched - I couldnt tell em apart.

They knew all sorts of arcane things (like the Turbo
rad was CHEAPER for a while than the regular rad - go
figure) and can save ya bucks (for example some times
the parts come as a sub assembly for FAR less than the
few parts you wanted)

BTW - this might be a way to make some $$ if you can
tie up capital.

At one time (probably because it was still in
production) a center section for a trans (aka all the
gears and guts but no case or forks) was $500. Yup -
make a BRAND new trans for less than the cost of a
rebuild!
