TOY: Rear Parking Brake - Disks
Thanks for the info Thom, thats what I was thinking
also.
IMHO - the xfer disk parking brake works because of
the diff gearing leveraging.
Sorta defeats the pont of rear disks to some extent.
As far as I could tell, the appeal of rear disks was
that there was less "drum" to get mud/ water packed
into when "swimmin".
In looking at the OEM setups, the Sequioa uses the
small "inner drum" to deal with the large mass of the
SUV.
I dont think the inner tiny drum "brake" trick is
gonna work with the full floater rear.
Anyone know of an OEM that uses rear disks on a full
floater?
I know also that a drum brake is "self energizing" and
thus wont require as much clamping force to engage/
hold in place. (had to calculate it once in class).
Its beginning to look like the All-Pro rear disk is
the way to go as the diff leveraging makes up for the
lack of clamping force.
