TOY: Re: Motor Swap Options

Good choices, but you have one thing wrong. The 7M-GTE is by far cheaper
than the other two.

You can order a jap motor with warentee for around $800-$1000(sometimes
less).
You can pick up harness and ecu from www.thepartstrader.com for probably
around $200 for the both.

With a W series tranny, all you need is a bellhousing from a non-turbo
manual 7M, or any manual 5M motor.

Buy a couple 22R engine mounting brackets from Toyota, cut off stock ones,
weld on new ones where you want them. Re-route fuel lines(drop in EFI fuel
pump if you are going from carburated). Rig up radiator. Splice a few power
connections into harness, and crank.

In a few months, I plan on doing a 5M conversion. The conversion is going
to take less than a day. The entire process will be documented(possibly
video taped). Just to show how easy and cost efective the 5M-7M swap can
be.

For power, all you have to do on the 7M-GTE, is bump up your boost, and you
have an automatic 300hp. You will spend thousands of dollars getting that
out of a 22RTE as well as the 3.4 for the supercharger. In addition to the
300hp of the 7M-GTE, if you add an APEXi S-AFC($350), you can crank the
boost a little bit more and climb up to 400hp, hope your drivetrain can
handle that :).
