Yeah, the one that you would think would be the most legal is the farthest
from it. I've done the 350 swap into an 83 pickup, it does not fit. We
ended up cutting the firewall out and relocating it back about 3 inches back.
The only reason for this was so we could keep the stock radiator support and
hood latch. I've seen people get away with a 3" body lift, putting the
radiator where the radiator support normally goes, and "massaging" the
firewall back with a hammer. The wiring isn't bad either because you can just
use the appropriate Painless Wiring kit. If I were you I would try and find
a 4.3 as close to the year of your as possible. Blah, Blah, Blah, I've been
yapping too long.
