when to change oil; was: TOY: test
I decide when to change mine by the color. When its black I change it.
In the military the Hummers have vampire pumps that are used to suck a
sample of oil out, then the oil is sent to a lab to be analyzed (for metal
dust, water, whatever); then by that they respond saying whether to change
to oil yet or not.
Going by mileage is ok. But not the best way. Especially when you offroad
it, your oil is likely contaminated as much in a mile as in 20 highway
miles. An hour counter like on industrial machines would be better than an
odometer. But the best way is to change it when its dirty, regardless of
mileage.
If I'm wrong let me know :),
