TOY: Re: *conclusion* Temp help part 2
Ok, looks like the whole mess is finally ended for me. Picked up the
-03070 thermostat and gasket from Toyota today (final total came to
$35cdn) Neat looking little tstat.
Threw it in, fired up the truck and watched what happened. Temp built
to the usual spot (needle horizontal) and... ahhhh... the tstat opened!
No climbing 3/4 of the way up the scale, no really annoying spike to the
red line, none of that. Just perfect, proper behavior. So it looks like
it solved my problem. I'll take it for a good long drive tonight to make
absolutely sure but I'm pretty convinced.
One thing I wondered about with people saying they've never had problems
with the stock tstat is I wonder if placement of it affects it's
performance. My original tstat didn't have any problems. I replaced it
for a seperate issue and the problems started (masked by my seperate issue
so didn't think much of it until I resolved everythign else) replaced it
with my old tstat that worked fine but the problem was still there so put
another new tstat in and again, same issue.
My old tstat hadn't caused problems and then it did when I reinstalled
it. The sensor on the tstats is offset to the side and I wonder if it's
location within the chamber below it would have an affect on how
accurately it reads. Maybe one side of the 'chamber' gets more cold
coolant or is more turbulent than the other or tends to trap cold coolant.
This might explain why some people insist there is no issue with the stock
tstats and some people insist there is a problem. Just an idea.
Anyways thanks everyone for the help and part number! I never would
have figured that part number on my own.
