Besides the Toyota 190 degrees stat. the Toyota 180 degree
stat also be used

The 180 was standard on the turbocharged 22R-E and on
nearly all 20R engines.  The 180 offers these benefits:

- noticably reduced engine pinging
- noticably lower oil consumption
- slower deterioration of engine gaskets and hoses
- extremely long engine life*

and one disadvantage:

- about 1/2 of 1 MPG less gas mileage

* my 1992 22R-E has 397,000 miles with no head gasket
   or timing chain problems and 180 psi compression on
   all cylinders and burns only 3000 miles/quart. I used
   the 180 thermostat for most of these miles. This engine
   will probably make it to 600,000.
