If there is poping noise when the truck is stationary, then it will be
easier to trace. Have someone turn the steering wheel while you listen
with a stethoscope.
You could lift the truck up by the frame to see if there is still noise.
If there is, then it could be binding in the steering u-joint. Lift the
truck up by the axel to see if the noise is from steering linkage to the
axel. If there is no noise with the wheels lifted, then it could be
bearings or knuckle bearings. Shake the wheels to see if there is
freeplay, and to see if it rotates freely.
