Re: ToySUV: tranny fun
had the same prob on my dads 87 2wd and my 92 4x4. I replaced the shifter
bushing (small whitish plastic piece that slips over the end of the shifter)
and the seat( a round green piece that the shifter socket rides on)
It cost me 14 bucks for both parts at the dealer. easy to replace too. take
of shfter knobs, remove 4 philips screws and pull up the shifter boot.
at the base of the shifter push down while turning the base about 1/4 turn
counterclockwise and the shifter will come right off. the seat may be all
disintegrated and youll have to fish the pieces out. the bushing will be on
the end of the shifter.
