I read this along with mike's suggestion of the pinion seal etc...
I'm not suggesting he's not right but you should actually check your u-joint
there by detaching it from the flange on the diff..  Ujoints can make pretty
impressive sounds when they are pooched, and have interesting patterns as to
how to make them squeal...
If your ujoint is seized, lubing it probably wouldn't have shut it up...

So, get out your 14mm's and detach the flange and try moving the joint...
It might surprize you.
