Let's not forget the 79-83 transfer cases - to my recollection, these are
all top-loaders.

Also - there are differences between the transfer cases; more than just the
shift forks.  The early cases, I believe pre 84, have stronger gears (per
marlin).  The 84 and later cases have the "quiet" gears which are not as big
(wide) as the earlier cases because of an oil-slinger styled gear that rides
next to the input gear.
