Both of my (originally carb'd) trucks have the shifter in the tranny.
The '86 is no longer anywhere near stock, but the '84 is very close
to it.  My '91 EFI truck has the shifter in the case.  However, it's
not the stock tranny that's in it; I believe it's an '85 EFI tranny and
transfer.

Also, there's a few other options too... V6, automatic, stuff like 
that, but I don't think you're going near any of those.
