Toyota use motor not solenoid
I agree with you it would not be an easy design to
adapt to drop out 3rd member design unless they modify
the carrier like Mc namara vacuum diff. They could
supply an actuator that bolt to the housing but that
would need torching the housing (possibly bending it)
and would be very hard to align during install.
This kind of cover mounted actuator are also used on
OxTrax OxLocker.
This kind of design would work very good with IFS diff
though.
