TOY: head gasket replacement
After several weeks of trouble shooting to determine the problem with my 86
4runner w/ 22re spewing coolant out of the outlet hose, etc. I discovered
that the problem w/ my 4runner is a blown head gasket, a problem I have hear
of more often than not lately. Reservoir smells like exhaust, exhaust is
blue and new hoses/ tstat etc. won't stop the problem. My only question now
is when I do replace the head gasket do I do all the other stuff associated
with an upper engine rebuild. I decided I will. Based on experience, does
anyone know what the chances are of me having to replace the short block in
the process or at least rebuild it? also I have heard often that in this
case the head could be warped as it is aluminum. Any insight would be
great. I look forward to it running great again with a little tough love.
thanks
